Basic Information

Mugwump rock climbing

Sessions

Betsey Cox offers 2, 3, 5 & 8 week sessions. The camp population is about evenly divided between longer and shorter sessions.

Location

The camp is in the Killington Mountain area, five hours from New York City and three hours from Boston by car. We are ten miles north of Rutland. We meet bus or train arrivals in Rutland, and air transportation at Burlington International Airport.

Accreditation

The camp is accredited by the American Camping Association, the only nationally recognized organization of its kind. The ACA accreditation means the camp has passed stringent standards for safety, staff, facilities, and operation.

Owners/Directors

Lorrie Byrom is the Director at Betsey Cox. Her winter work is at Northfield Mount Hermon School in Massachusetts, where she is Dean of Faculty, history teacher, international trip leader and student advisor. Mike Byrom is Associate Director of Betsey Cox and Director of Sangamon. Both are avid travelers and outdoorspeople, who like cycling, sailing, kayaking, cross-country skiing, and hiking. Their professional work with children in academic and camping education began in 1965. Their own children grew up happily at the camps and have served on the camps' staff for many seasons.

Religious Orientation

The camp is not religiously oriented, but honors a Creator by saying or singing grace at meals. We create a community where all religions are welcome, and belief is a matter of personal choice.
