Welcome

When we arrived at camp we didn't know each other and we were a little worried because we wouldn't know anyone there, but in a matter of days we became "camp" sisters to one another.

Campers with Future World Leaders sign

Betsey Cox is a camp for young women growing up in the global world of the twenty-first century. Betsey Cox couples traditional camping with a commitment to programs which develop skills necessary for girls who hope to make a difference in the future. Like the camp's namesake, a girl who grew up in pre-Revolutionary Pittsford, our campers develop the self-confidence to take risks and to manage their lives.

Each girl creates her own schedule each day; well-trained staff offer guidance when needed. Except for required swimming lessons, the program is fully elective. Campers take responsibility for their

own lives in ways which they may never have experienced before. Each girl contributes to the work in the community by taking turns with all-camp jobs in the cabin, dining hall, and the garden.

Betsey Cox provides a stable, long-term experience with a real sense of belonging. The people and the sense of extended family draw us back to each other year after year. Our staff and campers represent many countries, and they contribute multiple talents and perspectives on growing up and living with others.

This community offers an opportunity for growth that is unique and of life-long value. Betsey Cox is an important part of many lives, and I invite you to make it part of yours!

Sincerely,
Lorrie Byrom,
Director

The Camp Setting

Betsey Cox is built on the site of an old Vermont hill farm near Pittsford. Our property includes acres of lush green meadowland, cool woods, and our own spring-fed lake. We are surrounded by the beautiful Green Mountains, and enjoy spectacular vistas in all directions.

A Tradition of Excellence

A Hike to the top of Mt. Mansfield The camp is proud of its history in providing young women with unforgettable experiences in a friendly atmosphere. The camp is owned and run by a family whose involvement now spans three generations. The spirit which keeps that immediate family at camp draws campers and staff into the larger "camp family" to return year after year. One-third of our staff are professionals working in education during the off-season months.

The Camp Community

Camp Picture Girls and staff join the camp community from across the world. We often represent as many as sixteen nationalities. The camp has a strong commitment to diversity of religion, race, nationality, and income.

A Comfortable Home

Nine campers and two staff live in rustic cabins named for the surrounding mountains. Pine-board walls, canvas bunks, and fieldstone fireplaces create a cozy atmosphere. Central wash houses have electricity, hot water showers, and flush toilets. Campers enjoy traditional or vegetarian meals from an appealing menu that includes fresh vegetables from our own garden. The girls' health and safety is a prime concern and our record is excellent. The camp nurse lives with us, a doctor remains on call, and the Rutland hospital is nine miles away. Staff are well trained in first-aid and emergency care.
